"Introduction to Wesleyan Theology"

Wednesdays, 6:15 - 7:00 pm, Starting October 26
Dr. Dale Schultz will be teaching a Wesleyan Theology Class based on a methodology for theological reflection that is credited to John Wesley, leader of the Methodist movement in the late 18th Century that became today's United Methodist Church. Wesley used four different sources to come to his theological conclusions. The four sources are: Scripture - the Holy Bible (Old and New  Testaments), Tradition - the two millennia history of the Christian Church, Reason - rational thinking and sensible interpretation, Experience - a Christian's personal and communal journey in Christ. As United Methodists, our Church asserts that “Wesley believed that the living core of the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason. Scripture [however] is primary, revealing the Word of God so far as it is necessary for our salvation.” This course is an introduction to how one could form their  theology, using Wesleyan methodology.

“When Helping Hurts” Book Study (Mid-week/Mid-day)

Wednesday mornings 10am starting September 21 in FLC #15
Churches and individual Christians often have faulty assumptions about the causes of poverty — assumptions that many times lead to ministry strategies that do considerable harm to poor people as well as to themselves. "When Helping Hurts" addresses these assumptions and offers several principles and strategies for poverty alleviation, including:

·         the distinction between relief, rehabilitation, and development

·         the difference between asset-based and needs-based strategies

·         the advantages of participatory over blueprint approaches

Join Pastor Steve in a reading/discussion of this important book that will change how you think about poverty and give you tools to really make a difference.
