Mary Powell returns as Adjunct Spiritual Director
Dr. Schultz and our Staff-Parish Relations Committee are pleased to announce that St. Philip’s extends its ministry through adding an Adjunct Spiritual Director to our Staff Team in Mary Powell.
Mary is a credentialed Spiritual Director, and we welcome the opportunity to be enriched by her pastoral education, experience, and expertise, while respecting her retired status. Starting today, Mary will be available, by appointment, for inpidual Spiritual Direction. She will also assist in leading Worship, and in providing Pastoral Care, at the direction of Rev. Buchele and Dr. Schultz.
For those unfamiliar with Spiritual Direction, Philip…asked, “Do you understand what you’re reading?” He [the eunuch] replied, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” (Acts 8:30-31) This very early example of spiritual direction demonstrates the desire of the eunuch to understand how the scriptures in the Book of Isaiah apply to him personally. Philip’s response led the eunuch to respond to the gospel about Jesus Christ by being baptized on the spot. Likewise today, we may struggle with a need to understand how God is moving in our lives and what our personal response might be in order to deepen our relationship with the Almighty. A spiritual director journeys alongside those who wish to explore their personal questions, their own spiritual growth, and the call God may reveal as we grow toward being made more Christ-like in our daily walk.
